Exhibition galleries
Monday, and Wednesday through Friday, from 10:00 AM to 4:45 PM
Tuesday from 10:00 AM to 7:45 PM (galleries open at 12:00 PM the second Tuesday of the month)
Saturday from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM
Please note that the last admission for exhibition visitors will be 45 minutes prior to closing.
Library
Monday, and Wednesday through Friday, from 9:30 AM to 4:45 PM
Tuesday from 9:30 AM to 7:45 PM (the library opens at 12:00 PM the second Tuesday of the month)
Saturday from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM
Staff retrieves materials up to 45 minutes before the library closes. Reading room closes 15 minutes before the library.
An advance appointment is strongly encouraged for all researchers. Please log-in to your Portal1791 account to select your preferred visit dates.
Upcoming Closures
- The MHS is closed Thursday, 4 July though Saturday, 6 July, for Independence Day weekend.
- The MHS is closed Saturday, 31 August through Monday, 2 September, for Labor Day weekend.
- The MHS is closed Monday, 14 October, for Columbus/Indigenous Peoples' Day.
- The MHS is closed Monday, 11 November, for Veteran's Day
- The MHS is closed Thursday, November 28 through Saturday, November 30, for Thanksgiving weekend.
Admission
The MHS is free and open to the public. All ages are welcome in the galleries; library readers must be at least 16 years of age or accompanied by an adult.
The MHS is located in a Nationally Registered Landmark building. It is equipped with a wheelchair ramp, interior ramps, and elevator that allow visitors with mobility impairments access to our reading room, exhibition galleries, and other public meeting spaces.
